Fall colour

A few months ago I posted some pictures of two art exhibits that had been "showing at a local beach. Both were part of the "Vancouver Biennial Open Air Museum".

Well here is a new exhibit on Granville Island:

Called "Giants" "The Vancouver Biennale has transformed a Granville Island industrial landmark into a gigantic work of public art! OSGEMEOS created a monumental, 360-degree, 23-metre tall (75 ft) mural, the biggest public mural of their career and their first in Canada. The mural, which measures a colourful 7,200 square meters (23,500 sq feet), was created on the six gigantic silos that are part of the Ocean Cement manufacturing and distribution plant on Vancouver’s Granville Island, alongside the world-famous Public Market, Emily Carr University, and boat docks that attract 10.5-million visitors per year."

The creators known as OSGEMEOS, translated as “The Twins”, are Gustavo and Otavio Pandolfo. Here is a link their artist statement.

Here it is from a different angle, bright, colourful, quirky and amusing. A big improvement on the former drab grey colour of the silos.

Here are some yellow late summer and fall sights. Cone flowers and below a Sunflower.

I was amused by the corn cobs below, this is popping corn on the cob.

I probably mentioned that we have had a very good summer here. Well so good in fact that here in Vancouver we are literally growing (going?) bananas.

I am not kidding, these next pictures are of a banana tree in my neighbourhood and you can see the bananas for yourself. Not in a greenhouse either, this plant is outside. It is unlikely that we will be rivalling tropical countries in production of bananas, but it was a great summer.

I am still waiting for eye surgery but wanted to let you know what I have been up to.

I have finished a new painting which I called "Carnival". it is a watercolour:

I finally finished and framed my painting "Catch of the Day":

This is a watercolour on aqua board, that has been sealed and then varnished then mounted on a black board and framed; because it is sealed it does not need to be framed under glass.

And finally in art news, my painting "Big Blue" was accepted in the juried show AIRS (Annual International Representational Show). The dates for the show are October 14 to November 2, 2014 and the opening and awards ceremony is on Thursday October 16, 2014. So to refresh your memory here is "Big Blue" my successful entry:

Thank you so much for dropping by and thank you for all the wonderful comments you have been sending my way.

Until next time, Gillian
